Ripe and Ready (even in -14 degrees.)
M2M (Ministry to Ministries) shares a post from Kyle Martin at Time to Revive as they share The Gospel with a message of revival in the chilly Twin Cities.
In the earlier days of when I would do Man on the Street – that is go throughout Dallas and look to share the Gospel with others – Ben (our videographer) and I would just drive. We wouldn’t have a designated area. We would simply “feel the city” and ask the Spirit of God to point us in a direction.
In other words, we would keep driving until we would sense a prompting from the Lord. But as soon as the Spirit says something, we are out and about doing what He asked us to do. As we were in Saint Paul, we would get out and talk to one person and then get back in the car. It was so cold we would regroup. In – 14 degree weather, it was cold enough that if you stood out for 20-25 minutes talking to a person…it felt good to put your hands in front of the van’s heater for a bit.
Well, person after person we were able to pray for people. One person asked us to pray for his mom who had cancer. Another person asked us to pray for his mom and family. Another individual shared about housing and roommate situations, so we prayed for him. It was encouraging and hopefully a blessing to those that we encountered. And because of the Spirit’s guidance, we continued to drive around the same block for a little while. And as we were driving there was an individual walking down the sidewalk.
This person was very bundled up. I couldn’t even see the face of the individual. But I hopped out right away. And boy oh boy – was this a divine appointment. God most definitely set this conversation up.
Turns out, this young individual was searching on whether or not he believes in God. His sister had been sharing the Gospel with him. He had even started going to church. He decided he needed to believe in something – maybe God, maybe nothing – but he was challenged by his sister to at least come to a conclusion about what he believes in.
This young man was ripe and ready to receive the Gospel. We walked through the wristband. The five colors. The five verses. And I have to tell you…it was one of those special encounters that I knew it was truly an ordained appointment. Even with the cold weather, the lips shaking, the knees knocking, this young man’s heart was warmed and he decided to place his trust in Jesus.
Acts 4:12 says, “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people by which we must be saved.”
This young man now believes in Someone, and that Someone is Jesus Christ who provides salvation.
